ASH VS EVIL DEAD TV Series Offers First Look At It's Necronomincon - See Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

As you probably already know, Sam Raimi has been working on a television project which will see the Evil Dead heading to TV this year. Starz picked up the new series which will be officially titled ASH VS EVIL DEAD. It will be a follow up to Raimi's EVIL DEAD films and will feature an older Ash accompanied by two other characters. Bruce Campbell will be reprising the iconic role.

Director Michael J. Bassett shared an image on Instagram which offers the first look at the new Necronomicon from the upcoming series.

With filming now officially underway in New Zealand for the ASH VS EVIL DEAD TV series, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert, all took part in a conference call not too long ago and answered a few revealing questions pertaining to the series.

When asked about how the plot will play out Tapert replied:

"There is an overarching plot, but each episode is telling a self-contained story. The characters themselves are on a bigger journey, so those who turn in every week will be rewarded, but the casual viewer can come in and out and kind of get what's going on. One of the reasons we decided we wanted to do a half-hour is we thought that this was a breakneck pace that the movies often had, and that really was the right format for the world of television, for this particular project. So I think that anybody can kind of join in, but those who love it will be able to see where it's heading and have hopes and expectations about the outcome."

Apparently the TV show will not make mention of ARMY OF DARKNESS:

"It takes place in a slightly altered universe. It takes place in an alternate universe after Evil Dead 2... I don't want to spoil too much for the audience, but that's the truest answer I can give you. We would be seeing similar locations, meaning it lives in a modern day world, with Ash battling evil in this era, the modern era.

Army of Darkness... does it exist? Certainly, Ash went through that experience, we're not really referencing it. We're not referencing specifics from that, but he certainly has that in his memory... We want the audience to be open, with no previous expectations going into the show. We want them to have seen one or all of the Evil Deads and be completely up to date on everything they need to know. So we really kind of designed it to live outside to having to have seen any of the movies. But if you’ve seen one, two, or three of the movies, it should still work very well for the viewer, we hope."

On how the Deadites will be:

"The storytelling over the first ten episodes, we will encounter deadites which are very different from than other faces of evil out there, and then we will expose the audience to new entities that were not presented in the Evil Dead universe so that the audience is surprised."

Campbell on ASH:

"He is a basket case. Ash is potentially damaged goods, and god forbid this is our hero. which is what really appeals to me personally as an actor. You know, you have a lead guy who in Army of Darkness was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people because he couldn’t remember three words. This is a guy who has to save the entire world. So I’m excited to see what will happen."

Raimi on the EVIL DEAD remake:

"I love the Evil Dead remake, I think Fede Alvarez did a brilliant job, with Rob producing and Bruce also helping. I love that movie, and I hope there will be a sequel. After we made this movie, as much as the fans loved it, they also seemed to want to see Bruce again. So we thought, this is the time, if we're ever going to do it, now is a good time and television seems like an interesting format to take it forward in. We chose to make Bruce story right now, but we hope we can get Fede back to continue the new Evil Dead series once we re-establish Bruce's story."

Campbell on possibly doing another movie sequel:

"It's a possibility no matter what happens, because I think we always want to keep that ability in the back of our minds to tell a story on the big old screen. Nothing will preclude anything, regardless of what happens. We made the movies over a 12 year period and the last one was over 24 years ago, but I think in the back of our minds we always want that ability to do that."

Here is more information on the upcoming STARZ TV series.

"ASH VS EVIL DEAD follows Ash the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip."

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell in the role of Ash Williams, Lucy Lawless as Ruby a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks, Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner, Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick and Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past.

Campbell also has made it known that the current plan for ASH VS EVIL DEAD is to try and have five seasons.

Aaron Lam will be producing and Craig DiGregorio will be the showrunner as well as executive producer along with Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell. Co- executive producing will be Ivan Raimi.

Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, and Tom Spezialy all are writing. The show will be made up of 10 half hour episodes.
