Before 'Warm Bodies' - The Definitive Guide to Zombie Comedies

Despite sharing the spotlight with Super Bowl weekend, zombie comedy “Warm Bodies” opened with a weekend total of $20 million. According to Cami Hadley at

http://www.cable.tv, advertisers spent $4 million on a 30-second ad during the big game. However, "zomedies" have been around longer than you might thinking. Here's a look at the most notable movies in the zomedie sub-genre of horror.

Shaun of the Dead 2004

Before actor/writer mon Pegg was fighting terrorism with Tom Cruise in "Mison Imposble" and beaming Jim Kirk from warp speed in "Star Trek," he was (and still is) teaming up with fellow British comedian Nick Frost to create cult clascs like "Hot Fuzz," "Paul" and "Shaun of the Dead."

Set in London, Shaun (mon Pegg) is a 29-year-old deadbeat who holds down a dead-end job. His girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) has asked him to do something with his pathetic existence, but he cannot bring himself to change. ck of playing second fiddle to his immature lifestyle, Liz breaks up with Shaun. Shaun wants to save the relationship, but before he can, he must deal with mobs of zombies taking over London. Now Shaun must save his friends and family before it's too late.

The most recent movie of the list, "Zombieland" was a huge success with its all-star cast, over-the-top bloodshed and amazing cameo from Bill Murray. Unlike "Shaun of the Dead," "Zombieland" was a hit at the box office, earning $102 million worldwide compared to $30 million from "Shaun," the Box Office Mojo reported.

The movie did so well, in fact, that Amazon will be creating an excluve TV spin-off for its own streaming network, Amazon Instant. The show won't have any of the cast members from the movie, but will still take place in the same world.

If you're a fan of the video game "Black Ops 2," then you were probably excited to play the new zombie-expanon pack that allows you to play the game from the perspective of zombie's — "Wasting Away" does the exact same.

The movie begins when a group of unsuspecting teenagers get infected and turn to zombies via some bad ice cream. The flick takes some really creative approaches to give us a new perspective on what it might be like to be a zombie — like why does everyone run away from me? Why is the world so sped up? During all this they're being chased down by the military attempting to cover up the whole incident.

If you're thinking, "this looks cheap" when watching the trailer below, that's because it is. But zomedies don't always have to come from big-budget Hollywood.

While we're on the subject of cheap zomedies, this independent film puts probably the two most awesome elements into one movie — ninjas and zombies — by making them fight each other. Don't expect amazing CGI and special effects here. However, you can expect some of the worst yet, somehow, best one-on-one ninja/zombie battles you've ever seen in your life.
