The Godfather Of Gore Herschell Gordon, Lewis Passes Away

There is very sad news in the world today as we have learned that The Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis has passed away. His passing took place on Sunday with the exact cause of death being unknown. He was 87 years old.

The news was announced on Something Weird Video where it was posted:

“Very sad news. We’re sad to report that Herschell Gordon Lewis has passed away. Herschell was a dear friend and colleague of ours and will be missed very much. Our deepest sympathies to his wife Margot and his family. RIP to the Godfather of Gore…”

There is no doubt that the Horror community will miss this individual who touched the lives of so many people in a positive way.



Lewis was a writer, producer and director, with films such as 2001 MANIACS: FIELD OF SCREAMS, BLOOD FEAST, COLOR ME BLOOD RED, THE GORE GORE GIRLS, MONSTER A-GO GO, SOMETHING WEIRD, THE GRUESOME TWOSOME, A TASTE FOR BLOOD, TWO THOUSAND MANIACS and THE WIZARD OF GORE.



Lewis was also an accomplished cinematographer as well as an occasional lyricist. He owned an advertising and consulting firm, and authored six books.

Back in 2002 Lewis returned to the director's chair with BLOOD FEAST: ALL U CAN EAT. Lewis also recently appeared in the BLOOD FEAST remake and as well as TERROR TOONS 3.
