Way back in March of 2014 the world learned that a fifth installment would be happening within the PHANTASM franchise. The film will be titled PHANTASM: RAVAGER and it is directed by David Hartman with series creator Don Coscarelli supervising. Hardcore fans of the films grinned with joy upon the announcement but then came a period of time where we have heard nothing more on the subject.
We have learned that the delay has been caused by series creator Don Coscarelli working on putting together a 4K restoration of the original 1979 film, which is led by J.J. Abrams.
Coscarelli spoke with EW revealing that both the PHANTASM restoration and PHANTASM: RAVANGER are "pretty much done." He added that will see the release of both in the first or second quarter of 2016 and could even be as a theatrical double feature.
He says of PHANTASAM: RAVANGER:
“Almost every one of the original cast is back. They’re all great in it. Angus Scrimm is magnificent. There’s some new iterations of those brain-shucking spheres and a lot of good stuff that the fans will enjoy. It ties up a lot of the storylines and answers some questions that fans have had.”
Coscarelli went on to say that PHANTASAM: RAVANGER will feature an extended sequence which will be set on the mysterious red planet that the evil Tall Man is from.
PHANTASM: RAVAGER stars Angus Scrimm and Reggie Bannister, as well as Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury and Kat Lester.
We will continue to bring you more on PHANTASM: RAVAGER as it unfolds.
