2012 saw the release of PROMETHEUS which became a huge hit at the box office and of course it makes perfect sense to have a sequel. Director Ridley Scott has been working on the upcoming ALIEN: COVENANT which will be the PROMETHEUS sequel and serve as a prequel to the ALIEN films.
We previously learned that the upcoming film will take place 10 years in the future beyond PROMETHEUS, and will not be so much of a spacesuit movie.
The film was previously set for a October 6, 2017 release but we have learned that ALIEN: COVENANT will now be released on August 4th, 2017.
ALIEN: COVENANT will star Michael Fassbender, Demián Bichir, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollet, Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez . Billy Crudup is also in talks to have a role in the film.
Fassbender will be reprising his role as David from PROMETHEUS. Noomi Rapace has not been announced to return as Elizabeth Shaw.
Synopsis:
"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."
ALIEN: COVENANT will soon begin shooting soon in Australia.
Remember the film now has a release date of August 4th, 2017.
