Big News For KONG: SKULL ISLAND!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Following Legendary Pictures' and Warner Bros.’ collective success with the global reinvention of the GODZILLA franchise, the companies decided not long ago to come together to create an epic, new shared cinematic franchise. All powerful monsters become towering heroes for a new generation, revealing a mythology that brings together Godzilla and Legendary’s King Kong in an ecosystem of other giant super-species, both classic and new. Monarch, the human organization that uncovered Godzilla in the 2014 film, are expanding their mission across multiple releases.

The long-term plan will ultimately see King Kong take on Godzilla in a battle like never before. Many fans have been wondering how such a thing could even take place as the Godzilla from Legendary's 2014 film stood around 350 feet tall, while King Kong's height was much smaller.

The filmmakers have decided to fix that problem by greatly increasing the size of Kong for the upcoming film KONG: SKULL ISLAND.

Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts recently showed a preview of the film at the CineEurope event in Barcelona. While there he revealed:

"This is going to be the biggest Kong there's ever been. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape."

KONG: SKULL ISLAND synopsis:

"a man who travels to the mythical island and home of the king of the apes. A team of explorers ventures inside what they find to be a treacherous island. The story is said to honor the King Kong lore but in a different time period."

The film will star Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Tom Wilkinson, Thomas Mann, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham, Will Brittain, Corey Hawkins, and Jason Mitchell.

The plan is for KONG: SKULL ISLAND to arrive in theaters on March 10th 2017, GODZILLA 2 on March 22nd 2019, and then GODZILLA VS. KONG is slated for a May 29, 2020 release. While Legendary maintains its new home at Universal Pictures, the GODZILLA films remain in partnership with Warner Bros., who will also distribute KONG as a part of this franchise.
