The new adaptation of Stephen King's IT has been coming together for a great while now. The plan for the project is for it to be presented in two separate films which is being produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. MAMA director Andy Muschietti was hired on to helm this new adaptation.
Some time ago we got our first full look at the new Pennywise and needless to say, it certainly has certainly got people talking.
With the new IT project being planned as two separate films, we can expect to see the point of view from the kids in one film and the other film being that of the adults. With that being said, it has been said that the second film that is planned would not be going into production until the box office has spoken. However, this may no longer be the case as the credible websites, Production Weekly and My Entertainment World, have IT listed to be filming in Toronto Canada March 17th. Not only that, but they also have a synopsis listed that reads:
“A promise made twenty-eight years ago calls seven adults to reunite in Derry, Massachusetts, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city's children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear.”
Producer Barbara Muschietti commented on the My Entertainment World listing on Instagram saying:
[the Muschiettis are] "just doing what we love to do", adding that at least one part of the listing is inaccurate - “Derry is in Maine.”
Muschietti certainly did not confirm anything about Part 2 beginning at that time, nor did she deny it. Who knows if the second half will begin filming on that date or if this could just be reshoots for the first half.
The current cast for the first half of the new IT adaptation is made up of Nicholas Hamilton, Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Owen Teague, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Javier Botet and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Clown.
September 8th, 2017 is the current release date for Part 1 of the new adaptation of Stephen King's IT.
