Major ALIEN: COVENANT Spoilers & Next Film Title Revealed!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Ridley Scott’s highly successful film PROMETHEUS was released back in 2012. It made such an impact at the box office that it only seemed right that a sequel would eventually follow. Scott has been working full steam ahead as director on his upcoming follow-up film ALIEN: COVENANT and serve as a prequel to the ALIEN movies.

As the hype continues to build towards the release of ALIEN: COVENANT, this year’s SXSW was graced by Scott himself, along with COVENANT stars Danny McBride and Katherine Waterston. Fandango spoke with the trio and some SPOILERS were dropped.

Scott on how ALIEN: COVENANT will be different from PROMETHEUS:

“It's beginning to answer the who and why. It's definitely gorier, and smarter. And [Covenant] starts to answer the who and why."

When asked if Noomi Rapace will be returning Scott answered:

"Yes, in a way. Not fully, but in a way. She was integral to what David carried out later."

Katherine Waterson quickly chimed in saying:

“You'll see! There are certain things you don't want to know. You don't want to know that!"

Scott then talked about the other ALIEN films that he has in mind revealing:

"There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien. It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant.. fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way...."

Waterson once again jumped in quickly with:

"You're giving away too much! But yes, there will be more after this. I think that was the question."

Scott then added:

"If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more."

In addition to mentioning that the next film will be titled AWAKENING, Scott also revealed some new sneak peek footage at SXSW from ALIEN: COVENANT and there were some major SPOILERS dropped indeed.

Here is the description of the footage shown at SXSW:

“In the final preview scene, Michael Fassbender's android David (he's definitely the same character from Prometheus in this scene, as he's called David by name) walks Billy Crudup's character through his personal workshop of biological terrors. He shows off different mutations of the creatures, explaining that he has been trying to understand the aliens that were discovered in Prometheus, going so far as to genetically engineer new versions --- a process that's been waiting for one final puzzle piece to complete. That's when David takes him into a small chamber filled with four eggs that look identical to the ones seen in the original Alien. The final puzzle piece, David says, is "mother" --- a waiting host --- and Crudup's character is lined up for the honor. The dots are easy to connect: the alien as audiences saw it in 1979 wasn't the result of evolution or natural selection. Instead, it was the result of an android intentionally breeding the most dangerous, lethal creature possible.”

The cast that is made up of Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Benjamin Rigby, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup and James Franco.

The film was written by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan.

Synopsis:

"Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."

Michael Fassbender previously had this to say about ALIEN COVENANT:

“It’s much scarier than Prometheus, but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus.”

Adding that:

“It’s kind of got more of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema.”

ALIEN: COVENANT will arrive in theaters on May 19th.
