The horror genre as it stands now

What do you guys think of the direction HORROR has taken in the last decade.. ?

The arrival of "torture porn"..and remakes.

The genre has had it's ups and downs, but honestly ade from the remakes I think things are going well. I love the idea of making Horror hurt. Making it horrific and pull no punches brutal. It's not brutal enough IMO. I hate all these UNRATED and Director's Cut DVD's.. I hate that shyte. Just release the damn thing uncut and let the audience deal with it. They're paying to see it! It's not being broadcast to them for free!

Making horror magnificently vile! NC-17 releases! Who's with me?

I have no problem with "torture porn" movies. They brought back the brutality. Brutality that flourished in the 70's and 80's and was eventually killed by tongue in cheek "comedy" horrors like the later NMOES films and the SCREAM trilogy.

My personal cut off is films like AUGUST UNDERGROUND, SCRAPBOOK or SLAUGHTER VOMIT DOLLS. Don't see much sense in them.

Most mainstream horrors have pretty much sucked. The past ten years had a few good ones, namely HOUSE of 1000 CORPSES, DEVILS REJECTS, HIGH TENON, INDE, MARTYRS, HOSTEL, WRONG TURN, DEAD LENCE, and I liked THE COLLECTOR. The rest are pretty much a dung heap of wannabe Japanese rip offs and MTV style fluff horror.

What HAS been good is the indie/underground circuit. The era of digital film making has put cameras in many hands. Most whom stink but we do get a nice film every now and then, especially coming out of Europe. Support the indie circuit! check out films on line and go check out the film makers at conventions!
