What is the best horror movie of all time?
Dr. Goreman Friday 12/25/2009 at 07:37 PM | 59509
of all times is a hard question to answer - the devils rejects is one of my persona favs because it has a gritty tcm feel. but i would have to give it to tcm overall. that film to this day still has an effect on me.

i would be stuck between original halloween, and the original tcm, halloween- it was sweet, very suspencful, and set the stage, and bar for future horror/slasher movies. texas chainsaw massacre- it was shocking, and terrerfying. it scared the pants right off you, and could acctually happenwell thats what i think

HALLOWEEN.....horror perfection.

Halloween would be a tough film to argue with but I'm not sure its perfect. Maybe in the slasher sub genre. How about The Excorcist? It has it all. Of course this is based on opinion.

I love love love Halloween but it's a toss up for me between it and the original TCM.

For the sheer amount of horror cliches that it helped spawn TCM is hard to dismiss.

For that matter though you might have to go all the way back to Romero's original NOTLD.

Ade from it being my personal fave, the reason why I give it "the" nod is also due to its cinematography. There are some continuity issues and other little bloopers that are typical to most film, but what you have in JC's HALLOWEEN is a clinic in film making. Its taught at NYU and in just about every film program at the univerty level.

After HALLOWEEN I would go with TCM; MANIAC and either THE BEYOND or SUSPIRIA

Wow....there's soo many really good ones hmmm....I wouldn't say Halloween right off the top because although I do truely love it I wouldn't conder myself a member of the "white mask army" lol. There's so many other excellent horror movies ade from the original Halloween to think of it as the best horror movie of all time. I would probably lean more towards the Exorcist, Pet Semetery, the 1st NOES, Jaws, etc. Then again I don't honestly think I could pick just one either...lol

"I thought you was in a hurry?"

"Y'damn fool - you ruined the door!"

Okay, so maybe it's my favorite because I grew up thinking it was a comedy

Five years ago, there was a official board for the movie, I made a lot of friends there I still talk to on IM every night, but there were a lot of people on there in the months before the movie opened and I didn't get to know everyone. Were you at that board 5 years ago?

It is hard to pick one movie as the best horror movie of all time. I really like The Devil's Rejects, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and also Hellraiser, and The Shining, and many others. I have many favorites and I like them for different reasons. So I am not just picking one.

I'm going to have to go with The Exorcist and John Carpenter's The Thing as my all time favorites. With A Nightmare on Elm Street as honorable mention for giving me traumas.
secretsquirrely Saturday 4/10/2010 at 11:26 PM | 63452
the Thing - only movie that ever made me jump without shitty jump cues. That and combining Kurt Russell and Keith David in a movie is like making a Cheeseburger with a bun made out of Beef Jerky it's that bad ass. An exploding bacon sandwich if you will. Never mind it's going to kill you, it's bacon that explodes... That's what happens when you put Spawn and Snake Plisskin into a ngle film.

I really thought about this one. I know a lot of you chose Halloween and The Exorcist. Both are amazing movies. I am going to have to go with George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". So many reasons. NOTLD in horror is like Black Sabbath of the metal world, it has inspired so many movies before it. When the film came out, it had a lot of controversy. It was scary and grotesque and still is to this day. A lot of people can watch a Romero film and say that it's all blood and gore but Romero movies are much more. Romero movies have subtle messages about society for their time. To have a strong black leading role in an era where racism was still pretty existent is a big deal and says a lot. Not to mention all the white people not keeping their cool the whole movie.

The following "Dead" movies are on the same level. Bedes all of that, it's a great and clasc movie. Thoughts?
TaRmAn1986 Tuesday 7/06/2010 at 04:27 PM | 64909
I don't think I can answer that . . . .

maybe if you broke it down into eras and said which is the best for each era:

-Clascs -Hammer -Slasher -90s -Remakes -Independent
