Elm Street video game, good idea or bad idea?

i was watching the Angry Video Game Nerd and he reviewed the old NES Elm Street game that was pretty bad, and i thought why don't they make a new Elm Street video game except make it freaking awesome this time

a few years ago some guy made a Flash game called Ecsape from Elm Street, if you haven't played it you should give it a try, spoiler (you fight freddy at the end) it's pretty fun, here's a link if you want to check it out:

I'd say stick to the awesome flash games. A console or PC game for Nightmare wouldn't work as well as one my hope I fear. The posbilities are great for it, especially if you use imagery and tuations milar to lent Hill 3. The only rather large issue is the fact that you would be dependent on being in the dream world, plus there would need to be some sort of enemy to fight along the way...which would sort of kill the idea that Freddy is controlling everything.

Then again...Project Zero/Fatal Frame 3 thrust the character into a dream world that slowly collided into reality...and it was so terrifying. Once again though, it required multiple enemies to keep it all going..with one main bad guy. Perhaps if they did it in a survival horror way that you have to face ghosts of victims past at times? Then it could lead up to a few boss fights with the man himself.

My biggest concern would be: how do you beat him? What sort of talisman or what not would you need in a game to beat Freddy? And would this add too much cheese and kill the creep factor of the rest of the game (like so many other games before it)?

All in all, a game is an interesting idea if done really really well...but I have a feeling it would be best to just keep dreaming heh Not to mention, the average fan would love a game where you control Freddy...but that would get kind of boring after a while.

you are right, they make a lot of shitty games but if they made a NOES video game it would be the only game where it would be cool to die unless you played as freddy then you would do all the killing

If they make a horror game here's how I think they should do it. Making a game based off of a horror movie is never a good idea. However making a game with horror movie characters would be totally kick ass. I think they should make a Mortal Kombat style game with horror movie villains, each one with their own style and special moves. For example Freddy would have the ability to summon fire or change the environment, or Jason could shoot you in the eye with a harpoon! Or they could make a game where you play famous scenes from various movies, like Dr. Loomis getting to the house in time to stop Myers, or run from Mrs. Voorhees and get to the boat. But thats just my opinion, now if this shit comes out in a game I'm gonna be pissed!!!

I would love that as well..and luckily..it exists. Look up Terrordrome. It's a fan made, free game that is modded from the technology used for a lot of those Marvel vs Capcom remakes on the net. It has Freddy, Chucky, Jason, Leatherface, Ghostface, and Ash all duking it out in an extremely fast paced fight game. If you get the controls down well they do some ck moves. Freddy even turns into the clasc "worm" from part 3 and tries to eat his opponent.

I just watched a demo of it on youtube and the person who made that is nothing short of a genius. If that came out onto a console I would buy it in a heartbeat. I can tell just from that, that that game would be my all time favorite. Well when it comes to fighting games at least.

I had a dream about an Elm Street game once. Third person, you played as Freddy (you had the Englund and Haley verons to choose from).

That's about all I remember.

Got it downloaded. Awesome to say the least. And with what it is now being a demo...just imagine what it'll be like when they finish it. Best indie game ever.

What they need to do, and Ive been saying this for years, is make a Mortal Kombat style Horror game including all of the horror icons, from Chucky to Dracula and everyone in between. They could have an alternate costume for each installment that you earn from fights, for instance, you could choose The OG Leatherface or the remake Leatherface, you could choose Jason from Part 3 or Jason from Part 7. Their finishing "fatality" moves could be a famous kills from the movies, for example, Freddy with the chalk board in Freddy's Dead or Myers hanging you on a wall with a knife to the torso in the first film. Ive played the Terrordome game, while good for a flash game, it still leaves A LOT to be dered, the last few MK games I bought had some really nice game play and I think a major company could make a game like this and make it well, thats if they pay attention to detail of course.

I guess I should have read through all the posts before I made mine

Looks like we are on the same page! Ive been waiting for this game for as long as I can remember, lets hope someone does it and they do it right.

When FvsJ came out I was really hoping they'd make a Smackdown type game or something with them in it. I'd enjoy almost any decent game with these characters. Even if it were a lent Hill type game and Freddy was a non playable character, it'll still be awesome to play a Nightmare or F13 video game.

I just see it being shit for some reason as much as i would love to see it! Capers, check out Terrordrome, its craaaazy..Characters look like they lifted the likeness of each slasher off the movie screen! they just need Dr Decker and Tarman in there for sure! and to the og poster I love that chick in the freddy porn!!

I agree with everyone. I just say, if they listen to the fans, know the movies, grasp the characters, and make it right, a good game can be made.

I believe that something truly awesome could be made of it, with the dream warriors motif you could solve the "kids can't fight back" deal. I could see it being made into a truly awesome slasher platformer with levels degned based on character specific fears climaxing in the final execution. Chase their asses around for a while dealing minor amounts of damage until they're cornered where you want them and then God of War dream sequence finisher BAM! moneys and fan service.
