My budget Freddy costume in progress

I wanted to see if it was posble for me to build freddy on the cheap...

2010-10-18%2019.30.43 by sweartoeric, on Flickr So this was my licensed sweater. I was never really happy with the big green thing. I had it from a few years back, and had distressed it and beat it up.

freddy 3 by sweartoeric, on Flickr Finally, a decent sweater. Hot topic saved the day here, the fit is great... and I finally have a RED sweater with green stripes!

freddy 1 by sweartoeric, on Flickr nce this is a budget project... I had to make due with this plastic replica. It is much cooler than the replicas I had as a kid. I distressed the glove and added some soldering effects. I think it came out pretty good. I might sharpen and repaint the knifes.

freddy 2 by sweartoeric, on Flickr I had to dirty up the glove itself, and it looks 100 times better when worn.

freddy 4 by sweartoeric, on Flickr Found this hat at a TJ Maxx for $5... beat it up and added some frays and holes.

freddy 5 by sweartoeric, on Flickr These boots were already in my closet... and they already looked like that, believe it or not.

I have a few options for pants... but the big hurdle now is the mask! I think the max i can shell out is around $80, and I would hate to have to settle for a crappy licensed mask, but I fall short of some of the nice ones out there. Any suggestions?

Great work on the sweater. I love it. I have found real gloves on ebay for as little as 50 bucks that are

great. that's where I found my nightmare 1 glove. My mask however ran me 350 at the time. Its a Latex FX. Cast directly from Robert's face.

agreed. homemade stuff always looks better than licensed shit. if you want a good costume anymore you have to make it yourself or spend a fortune. my licone freddy mask cost me 500 bones. ridiculous.

thanks a lot guys. I would love to find a licone mask that doesn't break the bank...but as far as latex, I love the mr.burns mask.

Very nice looking costume and check some of the ones on mm.net as I saw a glove for 40$ but it may be gone by now. I wanted to buy it as I sold one of mine.

im thinking that youre S.O.L. on the mask as far as your price range is concerned. youre probably gonna have to settle for licenced, bud.

Someone has a Don Post Freddy mask on ebay for a BIN of 20 bucks. This actually isnt a bad mask and its also a nice collectors piece.

This is also a nice licensed collectable mask:

This will pretty much be your best choices for the money you have. But, youll have a nice collectable mask to start your collection off with.

You guys have been super helpful, thanks!

As far as this Halloween goes, and volunteering at the local haunt -

It's looking like either licensed or nothing. (At least it will be dark....)I went to the Halloween shop they have set up nearby, and a little flirting with the cashier got me a remake freddy mask for five bucks, off the books! I have to say, as bad as it is, it isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I kind of hate remake Freddy's look, but this looks like a generic veron of it... not really that accurate, which for me is a plus. They definitely did a nicer job on it production wise than the licensed englund masks. It will have to hold me over, and hopefully scare some kids.

For $5 you can't complain. I still wonder what else you would have gotten with a bit more action. lol j/k

Ha ha who knows....

I actually just purchased this, one of the original NFX Janitor masks. It may need a revamped paint job when I have the cash (I guess I won't be sure until I see it in person), but for now it will be miles above. I just hope it gets here in time for all of the festivities....

And I still came in under budget!

My mison for the best Freddy costume for the least amount of cash continues... and I have hopefully found the final piece to the puzzle. It's not in my hands yet, but I'm in the process of purchang this glove from a member on another board.

unfortunately my friend here is right.. great masks come at a mighty price. there are the occaonal few that i have seen that can be customized to be pretty cool but for the most part you are looking at a couple hundred for a good freddy mask at least..

Although I do agree that a top of line the line mask is gonna run me a ton of money (never seen a licone freddy for less than $400...), I'm pretty happy with the Janitor mask, and I was able to get it for fifty bucks. Down the road I'd like to add to my collection some higher end stuff, but as for now, including the price of the glove i'm looking at, my freddy ensemble has cost a total of $119.
sweartoeric Sunday 11/14/2010 at 05:17 PM | 67823
I'd say for that price you got a hell of a deal on it. I sold one of my gloves for 120 to 150 I think on evilbay a month or so ago alone never mind a mask too for that price.
cropsy Sunday 11/14/2010 at 09:18 PM | 67832
Yeah, I feel like I did pretty good. Next up for me is trying to track down some reasonably priced Myers and Jason stuff.
