Easter Weekend Proves Disastrous for SCREAM 4

Ghostface may once again be reeking havoc on the small town of Woodsboro but the rest of the country doesn't seem to care. After a very disappointing opening weekend, the fourth film in a franchise that originally broke all the rules saw just $19.3 million in initial big 3 day opening. Not a terrible start for a horror film but one that clocked in at over $40 million dollar budget, a disappointing number to say the least especially condering the crossover appeal to the new and older generation of horror fans.

Week number two did prove any better for the Wes Craven directed sequel. The second week saw its box office drop

62%

for a 5th place $7.1 million weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. Thus far Scream 4 has taken in just a little over $30 million.

What will this mean for the proposed Scream 5 and 6? Time will tell but just because the murders have stopped does not mean that trouble isn't still brewing in Woodsoboro or for The Weinstein Brothers and Dimenon films who footed the bill for this ambitious project.
