Uwe Boll - The Man We Love To Hate

Even if you don't know the name Uwe Boll, you probably know his movies. You know, he is the guy who takes really bad video games and turns them into even worse movies. He is an arrogant S.O.B. who literally wants to fight all of his critics. But, somehow he has managed to make big budgeted Hollywood movies for nearly a decade and has actually been able to secure some pretty big names for his abominations.

Uwe Boll was born on June 22 1965 in Wermelskirchen Germany.

He studied film making in Munich and Vienna. He also studied literature and economics in Cologne and egen. In 1995 he received a doctorate in literature. That's right, it's Dr. Uwe Boll to you. In 2000 he founded Boll KG and his reign as one of worst directors alive began.

In 2002, he released his first of a long line of stinkers. "Blackwoods" starring Patrick Muldoon and Michael Pare. The story revolves around Matt, who years earlier had been driving drunk and killed a young girl. Now, his new girlfriend knowingly leads him back to the young girls upset family, and the torture begins.

Next up, "Heart Of America", also from 2002. Starring Jurgon Prochnow and Michael Pare. Based on the Columbine school shootings.

2003 was the start of thinking that every video game needed a movie based on it. "House Of The Dead" based on the Sega video game, starring Jurgen Prochnow and Jonathan Cherry. A group of teens attend a party on an island and soon find out that it's an island full of zombies.

After taking a year off, he returned in 2005 with "Alone In The Dark". Also based on a video game, starring Christian Slater, Tara Reid and Stephen Dorff. A ghost hunting detective runs down a paranormal mystery.

Also in 2005 was the release of "Bloodrayne". Based on yet another video game. This one had it's largest cast of stars to date--Kristanna Loken, Michael Madsen, Geraldine Chaplin. Michelle Rodreguez, Ben Kingsley, Udo Keir, Meat Loaf, Michael Pare, and Billy Zane. It's an 18th century tale of a half human half vampire named Rayne.

In 2007, he released his most ambitious film yet--"In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon ege Tale". There was a lot of hype for this one. There were TV spots and ad campaigns. He got a PG-13 rating and gave it a huge theatrical release. In 2007 "Lord Of The Rings" was still hot, and Dr. Boll exploited that fact. Starring Jason Statham, Burt Reynolds, Ron Pearlman, Leelee Sobieski, Ray Liotta, and Matthew Lillard.

This movie has a man who travels to find his kidnapped wife in this medieval tale.

Also in 2007 was "Seed". Violence for the sake of violence. The first five minutes is nothing but real footage of animal torture and dismemberment that has nothing to do with the movie at all. Based on a video game, but has nothing to do with it. An executed man claws his way out of his grave to wreak havoc--starring Michael Pare.

Again in 2007 he unleashed "Postal", yet another video game. His anti-American views really show through on this piece. Starring Zack Ward, J.K. mmons, Vern Troyer and Dave Foley. A couple of idiots fight the Taliban for a treasure hidden in an amusement park.

IMDB Rating: 4.2/10 Rumor has it, this is the movie where he started to pay people to put up potive reviews on IMDB and other webtes.

His 4th effort for for 2007 was "Bloodrayne: Deliverance". The sequel to 2005 "Bloodrayne". Starring Michael Pare, Zack Ward and Natasa Malthe. Rayne is back and this time she's battling gunslinging vamipres in the old west.

In 2008, after 7 movies straight, based on video games. He made a movie based on an original idea. That movie was "1968 Tunnel Rats". Did it work? No. Starring Michael Pare, this movie follows a group of American soldiers who must flush the Viet Cong out of thier underground tunnels.

Later in 2008, it was back to video games with the release of "Far Cry". Starring Til Schweiger, Udo Kier and Michael Pare. Two Seattle reporters investigate the deaths of mercenaries on an island off the coast of the Pacific Northwest.

2009 started off with another original thought with "Stoic". Starring Edward Furlong. A prison poker game leads to torture and a cover up.

http://youtu.be/iIEnL0Nj3xE IMDB Rating 3.8/10

Also in 2009 was "Rampage". Starring Bredan Fletcher, Matt Frewer and Michael Pare (Can Michael Pare not find anyone else to work with?). A young man builds a full body armor suit and goes on a mass shooting spree.

http://youtu.be/VSRSoncoV4k IMDB Rating 6.4/10 (This could posbly be another account of people being paid. There are a lot of reviews giving this movie 10 stars. I've seen it. 3 stars at the most.)

Another 2009 entry was "Darfur". Starring Kristanna Loken, Matt Frewer and Edward Furlong.

American reporters must decide on going home and publishing their stories or stay and help fight the injustice.

http://youtu.be/3fSjQEXzIXI IMDB Rating 5.7/10 Seems odd that this movie has been given 10 stars by people from his homeland of Germany.

2010 brought us "Final Storm". Starring Lauren Holly and Luke Perry. This movie, in my opinion, is the most unwatchable of all from Doc Boll' s work. A stranger finds storm refuge at a families farm house.

The next 2010 release--"Max Schmeling". Starring an entire German cast, this is the true story of the German boxer who took on Joe Lewis.

http://youtu.be/9RcphYqvKsA IMDB Rating: 3.7/10

Also in 2010 was "Bloodrayne: The Third Reich". Starring Natasa Malthe, Michael Pare and Brendan Fletcher. In this third installment. Rayne is now fighting the Nazi's during World War 2.

Now it's 2011. What does the dear old Doc have planned for us? First is "Auschwitz". Half documentary and half scripted movie, based on the real concentration camp. As far as I can tell, it hasn't been released yet, but it already has a handful of 10 star reviews. Also he give us "Blubberella", about an overweight woman who causes earthquakes with every step she takes. Uwe Boll actually stars in this one as Adolf Hitler. "In The Name Of The King 2" with Dolph Lundgren will soon grace video store shelves. While researching this article, I ran across this trailer for the Uwe Boll produced Italian zombie movie "Eaters".

Uwe Boll's arrogance is enough to hate him. In June 2006, he released a press statement challenging five of his harshest critics to a 10 round boxing match--4 accepted, but none of them won.

In April 2008, The Guardian ran an article claiming Boll had promised to retire if an online petition, at PetitionOnline.com asking him to do so, received 1,000,000 gnatures. May 7, 2008, the makers of Stride Gum announced they would give each gner a digital coupon for a pack of gum if the petition obtained the required 1 million gnatures by May 14, 2008. The goal was not reached. As of May 7, 2011, only 363,880 gnatures are on the petition. Click below for the link to the petition.

The man is just a bad filmmaker, plain and mple, but in his eyes he is one of the best. It's sad that a person is so blind to his own self worth and doesn't realize that he is just plain scum. His movies are bad, his attitude is bad and his ignorance is at an all-time high. I don't care how many PhDs he has. You can try to lay blame on others for his bad movies, but in the end it all comes rolling back down to him. It's not the cast, most are seasoned reputable actors. It's not the budget, IMDB has the budget for "Far Cry" at 30 million dollars. I don't know about you, but I've seen much better movies with a fraction of that budget. So in the end the blame is all on our good Doc. Also, the man is a bully. He turned into a big baby when someone talked bad about his movie, so he picks a fight with them. Grow up for God's sake. Aren't you supposed to be a Doctor, and here you are starting school yard fights.

As you can tell I'm about as fond of Dr. Uwe Boll as I am of constipation. If you are a fan of his and like his movies, good for you. That is your opinion and I respect that. Just don't try and tell me he is a good filmmaker or a misunderstood filmmaker, because it's just like his movies--"RUBBISH".

Great read. I agree with everything that you said pertaining to Uwe. It's hard to believe that he still gets the backing to put out such feces. I've only seen about 4 of the movies listed, and thats four to many. I'm sure Uwe must have one fan out there who will disagree and say that his movies are great, and his name is Michael Pare. Just my 2 cents.

As much as i agree with you about his poor directing i don't know if hes as bad as you make him out to be. House of the Dead was entertaining as hell. And that last trailer looked pretty awesome. Probably because he wasn't directing...Oh well. Good post man.
