Jason Called, He Wants His Hockey Mask Back!
We call this the definitive "Friday the 13th" remake hockey mask, you be the judge. Derek Mears (the remake Jason Voorhees) himself would have trouble spotting the screen used mask tting de by de this incredible prop replica. We love horror collecting and when someone shows the dedication and the amount of detail that artist Lars Peterman spent on this, it deserves attention.
Below is a brief description of the trails and tribulations Lars went through to painstakingly replicate the mask used in the hit 2009 remake, "Friday the 13th". Lars appropriately named his replica veron of the mask, "THE HERO".
"I just want to say again, thank you so much showing my work to the Bidite nation. It is truly an honor. To start off, the mask is made out of .90 ABS plastic which is what I prefer to work on as an artist and collect as a fan. It took about a week straight of work to get everything the way you see in the pictures. Well one week later, sore eyes, weight lose and the dere to not look at the remake hockey mask again for awhile may give you a clue that this is NOT an easy mask to replicate. You really have to spend some time comparing the photo of the screen used mask against my mask to truly appreciate how hard a task this was.
While the masks are not in the exact same potion in the photos below and the lighting is totally different you can still pick up the shading and chipping between the two. Look around the top mouth vent holes, under the nose and in the blast damage around the upper eye. You will probably spot a lot more details in my mask then in the screen shot because I got the opportunity to replicate my mask off of personal photos taken of the screen used hero mask as it is today! I referenced them from every posble angle and a lot of the finer details in my replica don't even appear in the screen shot unless you strain really hard to see them. I was VERY fortunate to get these photos to help me in my quest as I thought the hero mask (what the mask used in the actual film are called) was tucked away in a vault awaiting its appearance in a future Friday film (if that ever happens).
That is also why my replica has the blood staining from the vent hole, above the upper mouth vent hole and ever so faint on the de of the nose (right by the tip of the cheek chevron). Look hard and you'll see it. Exactly how the hero mask looks today on display in its glass case.
