Sam Raimi's OZ Gets Casting Updates and Release Date

First things first: Lets catch everyone up to pace. About a year has passed nce the announcement of "Oz: The Great and Powerful" and although it's not necessarily horror genre news it pertains to one of our favorite horror directors and has potential to be a successfully impresve dark and imaginative film.

The announced release date is March 8th, 2013. However, we all know how likely it is that this date change a number of times before Disney finds a keeper. Of course they'll have to release it the perfect time of the year for raking in the most money posble, but i digress...

The script was written by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire, with Joe Roth, Josh Donen, and Grant Curtis producing and Palek Patel exec producing.

The folks over at Deadline report that Zach Braff (Scrubs) is in the final talks to play the role of the loyal, yet under appreciated asstant to OZ (Played by James Franko of 127 hours & Spiderman), Frank. Oz is described as a a "charismatic circus magician who is treated as a powerful wizard after his balloon blows off course into Oz and the townsfolk want him to eradicate a Wicked Witch and bring peace".

The witches are played by Mila Kunis (Book of Eli) as Theodora, Michelle Williams as Glinda, and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy) as Evanora. Joey King is set to play China Girl, a girl made of porcelain whom Oz takes under his wing after Evanora kills her family

The film is set to begin shooting in Michigan sometime in July and last but not least: The film is of course set to be presented in the third dimenon. More as it comes
