Awesomely Bad Horror - Maximum Overdrive

Is there any other horror film that can be this incredibly bad, yet so great at the same time? Maximum Overdrive threw down the “it’s the 80’s and we don’t give a f*ck” gauntlet in a big way. Viewers are treated with a very obscure and minimal set up for what causes machinery to suddenly come to life and slaughter every warm body in their immediate surroundings, and that’s okay because story setups take way too long and we just want to see people get hit by 18 wheelers. Thanks for cutting to the chase 80’s, you know me too well.Based on the short story “Trucks” written by Stephen King, Overdrive became the first and only film to also be directed by the master of horror. Innocent folk are massacred with lawnmowers, vending machines, airplanes, and pretty much anything with four wheels and an engine. “I only watch films about murderous machines with a kick ass sound track” you say? Overdrive delivers again by showcang a soundtrack composed only of AC/DC songs. The “Green Goblin” Happy Toyz rig is our story’s main looming antagonist and is way up there on the all time greatest list of creepy ass movie vehicles. With all ridiculousness ade, after watching this move you can’t help but think, whenever you have to walk in front of an empty big rig a parking lot, what may be going on underneath the hood. So to recap, zero plot sense, AC/DC soundtrack, over-the-top murderous vehicles, written and directed by Stephen King, AND starring Emilio Estevez, all of which equal a pretty awesome train wreck of a movie.
