POLTERGEIST Remake Could Be Refreshing Take On The Original

Remakes are always a heated debate within the horror community as we tend to get the treatment more than other genres. In my mind a good remake is when the source material is somewhat dated and someone new can be brought to the table to bring out the best from the source material while expanding on the original. Good examples are the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD and go all the way back to John Carpenter's THE THING.

Below is straight from our good friends at DreadCentral concerning the state of THE POLTERGEIST remake and what will separate it from the pack:

According to New York Magazine's Vulture, MGM’s new studio management in February told Hollywood’s talent agencies it was moving ahead with plans to reboot five movie franchises, including Steven Spielberg’s 1982 horror hit Poltergeist. Word is that the studio has offered Pulitzer-prize winning playwright cum screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) the job of reimagining the paranormal clasc.

Reached by Vulture, Lindsay-Abaire confirmed he’d been approached by MGM and offered the job but emphazed that no deal had been reached and stressed that he was not yet even sure he wanted to take it.

The good news: Inders tell the te that MGM has no creative parameters for a Poltergeist remake — it would be Lindsay-Abaire’s to shape in whatever fashion he chooses, should he want the job.

Sounds interesting and something we will definitely keep our eyes on.
