Josh Hutcherson & Dane Cook Are Headed To DETENTION Via Sony

It didn't take long for a major studio to pick up the rights to the Joseph Kahn-directed movie Detention, which recently claimed the Youth Jury prize for best FutureWave Feature Film held at the Seattle International Film Festival.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news a few hours ago that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquitions (SPWA) picked up the world wide rights to the indie flick, which bills itself as an apocalyptic teen romantic comedy with elements of body-swapping and time-traveling.

In addition to directing, Kahn also co-wrote the film with Mark Palermo. The tandem of MaryAnn Tanedo and Richard Weager produced the feature, which stars Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook and Shanley Caswell.

Plot Synops:

The film follows a 17-year-old who is given detention on the night of her prom. Over the course of the night her friends are murdered by a fictional horror movie icon. It's said to be in the vein of Scream with elements of Back to the Future (time travel is involved) and clasc John Hughes teen films from the 80's.Source: THR
