SPACE INVADERS Coming To The Big Screen!
Space Invaders the movie?? Yep. Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Odd Lot Entertainment’s Gigi Pritzker, announced earlier today that the popular arcade game Space Invaders will be getting a push onto the big screen. For di Bonaventura, Space Invaders is the latest of a string of projects based on the 80s benchmarks. He is a producer on the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies which incidentally were popular toys from the 80's. In addition he is also developing Asteroids and a remake of 1989's Pet Sematary for the big screen.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news earlier today which still has me puzzled.
According to the article, the two producers are now searching for a writer which should pose as a challenge due to the fact that Space Invaders doesn’t have a built-in mythology. It's going to take a real creative mind to come up with such a captivating universe. But at least they won't have to worry about offending "gamers" because their is no prior background.
The film will most likely be billed as a scifi/horror flick, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
