What We Missed - The Week In Review For 7/3-7/9 Tobe Hooper News, Blade, Nightscape & MORE

Welcome back all you Bidites that are scattered all over the globe. Once again it's time for the popular segment which we debuted about three weeks ago. Last week went by in such a blur, and lots of news headed our way...a little too much. But don't worry, we're not gonna leave you freaks out in the cold. I gathered through the pile, and picked out a nice zed handful of all the happenings from this past week. So, with that being said, get ready for....

Tobe Hooper, director of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is working on a horror novel entitled Midnight Movie. The book which chronicles the bizarre aftermath of a screening of Hooper's student film Destiny Express, will be published by Three Rivers Press and available at your favorite book retailer on July 12.

Book Synops

The good news: Director Tobe Hooper has been invited to speak at a screening of Destiny Express, a movie he wrote and directed as a teenager but that hasn't seen the light of day in decades. And Hooper's fans are ecstatic.

The bad news: Destiny Express proves to be a killer...literally. As the death toll mounts, Tobe embarks on a desperate journey to understand the film's 30-year-old origins - and put an end to the strange epidemic his creation has set in motion.

Featuring the terror, humor and sly documentary style Hooper devotees remember from such clascs as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Midnight Movie is vintage Tobe Hooper, again demonstrating the director's place as one of the godfathers of modern horror.

Scream of the Banshee and The Task are receiving releases on DVD. The two movies are from the After Dark Original Series which are made in conjunction with the SyFy Channel. Both films will be available on July 26th with a suggested retail price of $19.98 each.

The opening for Blade Anime saw it's debut on YouTube sometime this past week. The anime tale is directed by Yuki Hikaru Hara Masu, and debuts in Japan this month. Wonder if we'll ever see this in the sates?

Some news regarding the remake of the Korean cult clasc Oldboy transpired earlier in the week. According to Twitch.com, it looks like the US remake may have founds it's director Spike Lee is apparently in talks to direct the English veron of Park Chan-Wook's Oldboy. Let's keep our fingers crossed on this one.

Lucky McKee's highly controveral film, The Woman landed a distributor mid way through the week. The Collective and Bloody Disgusting Selects will be releang the film under their media banner. No word when it will be released.

The Woman stars Angela Bettis, Pollyanna McIntosh, and Sean Bridgers.

Plot Synops:

The Woman is the last surviving member of a feral clan that has roamed the Northeast Coast for decades. When the last of her family is killed in a battle with the police, The Woman finds herself alone, severely wounded and vulnerable. Unfortunately, she is now a far too easy prey for local hunter, successful country lawyer and seriously disturbed family man Christopher Cleek. With his twisted set of ideals, Cleek decides to embark upon a deranged project - to capture her and "break" The Woman - a decion that will soon threaten the lives of Cleek, his family and The Woman.

Pacific Rim, which stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day and Idris Elba, finally received a release date. Look for

the Guillermo del Toro monster flick to be released on July 21, 2013 by Warner Bros. Shooting starts on October 31, 2011.

A 5 minute scene known as the "Thief Sequence" for the horror/fantasy indie flick Adam Chaplin landed on the Tube last week. Adam Chaplin comes to us from filmmaker Emanuele De Santi, and it'll be featured in it's entirety at the 2011 Bram Stoker Film Fest. The film is being billed as the first movie to combine all the extreme action of an anime cartoon with the realism of a horror movie. Interesting.

The supernatural thriller Nightscape, which is written and directed by David W. Edwards, is heading into production real soon. The news broke this past Wednesday. In order to hype up this event, a new one-sheet debuted. Filming for the movie will take place primarily in and around the Portland area.
