Alexandre Aja Involved In Dimension's Upcoming TV Series Based On Cronenberg's SCANNERS

Remember the sci-fi horror clasc Scanners? Well it might be heading to your Hi-Def TV screen in the near future. According to Deadline, The Weinstein Co.'s Dimenon Films is currently working on a new drama series based on the David Cronenberg clasc from 1981. The movie centered around a group of people with telepathic and telekinetic abilities.

Writer-director Alexandre Aja, best known for The Hills Have Eyes remake and High Tenon, has gned on to executive produce the series and there's a strong posbility that he may also direct the pilot episode.

Although not original involved, Dimenon acquired the rights to the franchise in a development deal several years back. Originally the plan was to remake the film but with the recent resurgence of genre TV dramas like AMC's monster hit The Walking Dead, Dimenon began recondering their plan, and opted to release a small-screen adaptation instead.

An inde source revealed that it was Dimenon principal Bob Weinstein and Aja who formulated the plan together to transform the Scanners property into a TV show.

Rene Malo, Clark Peterson and Pierre David are attached as executive producers on the series, David Goyer, who was originally approached to write the draft for the proposed movie adaption is no longer involved in the project.

Dimenon is currently in talks with potential showrunners to create and run the series. Aja is repped by WME and Industry Entertainment.
