It's Official: Glen Mazzara To Succeed Frank Darabont As 'The Walking Dead' Showrunner

Just last night we learned that Frank Darabont was stepping down as the showrunner for AMC's mega-hit The Walking Dead, which was quite shocking to say the least. Now today we're learning from Deadline that the rumors are true, and Glen Mazzara will now serve as the Walking Dead's new showrunner replacing Darabont.

Mazzara will still remain an executive producer of the show alongde Robert Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd. However, it is still unclear if Darabont will stay on board, and in what fashion as those conversations are still ongoing. "We hired Glen Mazzara as our Number 2 in the room," Darabont said in a Deadline interview last month. "We conder him our head writer and he’s just a fantastic asset." Thus far the production on Season 2 of Walking Dead has not been interrupted by this unexpected change, and the series remains on schedule for an Oct. 16 premiere. Mazzara has been part of The Walking Dead nce Season 1 when he wrote one of the x episodes as a freelancer. The Shield graduate recently served as showrunner on the first season of Starz's Crash and the second season of Hawthorne. So it certainly looks Mazzara has the credentials to handle his new workload.
