The Unsung Cinema: Slumber Party Massacre II

Hi there, and welcome to my new series, The Unsung Cinema.

Un-sung

adj. 1. Not uttered or rendered by nging. 2. Not celebrated in song or verse; not praised or acclaimed.

It's a series I do whenever I'm bored and feel like writing a review of some movie that is not generally known to the public and desperately needs to be. Today I'm doing a criminally underrated movie that's really not as bad as everyone says it is. It takes the right kind of taste to appreciate this 1987 slasher-sequel. It's crazy, it's wild, it's...I really, really love this film. It has a sort of charm that's incredibly hard to find in films today. Yes, it's a B-movie and SPM2 is not afraid to show its true colors. At no point does it play itself seriously and it's just an incredibly fun movie. It has everything you would ever want in an entertaining flick: Hot babes, lots of blood, and rock 'n' roll.

Great Article!! I'm a big fan of all three films. I was completely stoked that they finally released all three flicks on DVD last October (I even got a cool blood covered pillowcase with the set).

I totally agree with you, this flick had the word WEIRD written all over it. Hope to read some more of these "Unsung Cinema" articles.

Glad I'm not the minority here. What I loved about SPMII that it seemed made deliberately for no one. It was such a risky approach following a popular slasher movie. And you can't ealy suggest at least a few milar movies -- which is a good indication that it's probably one of the most goofy, original horror films perhaps in slasher history.
