Talk about highs and lows. Just over a year ago THE WALKING DEAD premiered on bac cables AMC and was an instant hit. Caung shockwaves stirring in the horror community and the general TV audience, all seemed to be great on the surface, anticipation for season 2 was at an all time high.
Fast forward to the SDCC where series creator Frank Darabont came to promote the second season of his "baby". Again, buzz was abound and fans were excited to see what would happen next with the zombie fighting crew.
A few weeks ago it was announced that Darabont had abruptly left the show, quit with no real explanation. Rumors began to fly that Darabont exited because the budget for the show was cut in order to keep AMC's hit MAD MEN on board. Fans were left with their mouths open and an uneasy feeling because the show that we all had loved so much might be in serious jeopardy.
Now courtesy of THR, word from some of THE WALKING DEAD crew members is that AMC told Darabont that he was actually fired. It turns out the network waited for Comic-Con to pass in order to use the director to promote the show. "It's a crushing blow," said an inder. "Even when you have a hit, they can still destroy you."
It turns out that before leaving, he gave some final notes on the show and sent some farewell e-mails to co-workers. He has been avoiding the press and so have the cast members. AMC apparently made it very clear to them that it's not wise to talk the Darabont tuation. "They're scared," confirms another inder. "They're on a zombie show. They are all really easy to kill off."
What will happen to the show? Everything seems to be going wrong here and many are left wondering if it can survive. What are your thoughts? Could this be the death of the show that was once so proming?
