10 Wicked Robert Englund Flicks!

It would be extremely easy to run through the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series and fill this list up with Freddy Krueger this, Freddy Krueger that, but how interesting would that be? Well, it may actually make for an entertaining piece, but I’m not going to travel that route. Rather, I’m opting to list some of Robert’s more obscure works with the hopes that you may stumble upon a forgotten or overlooked gem that you may not even be aware of.http://youtu.be/BapcPNHd6JU

A Nightmare On Elm Street: Yes, I had to include at least one Nightmare flick. If I’m giving a nod to Krueger, you know I’ve got to honor the onscreen birth of this vile character, as old blade-fingers is still regarded as one of the most terrifying villains in cinematic history. Come on, a disfigured child murderer who slaughters teens in their sleep? Now that’s both horrific and noteworthy!

The Mangler: I love Robert’s over-the-top portrayal of the super creepy Blue Ribbon Laundry Service owner Bill Gartley. This flick is by no means terrific, but Englund’s quiet menace (and awesome phycal appearance) is memorable, and who doesn’t love a decent Stephen King adaptation, especially one directed by Tobe Hooper about a flesh hungry laundry folding machine? Cheesy magic!

Wishmaster: Watching Englund play a straight shooter is always entertaining. While there’s a hint of scumbag in Robert’s portrayal of Raymond Beaumont, he is for the most part your typical bunessman. What takes this role over the edge is the debonair essence of the character: Englund pours on the charm. He’s just got to be careful what he wishes for!

Urban Legend: Urban Legend isn’t exactly a terrific picture, and it did find itself lost in the wave of Scream inspired slashers of the late 90’s. That doesn’t alter the fact that Englund toys with irony wonderfully in his depiction of Professor William Wexler. In truth, Robert’s incluon in the feature is one of the greater strengths offered by this mediocre genre offering.

Strangeland: Here we have another flick that ultimately fails on many fronts, yet still managed to snag quite a cult following. The structuring and execution of the story is completely devoid of suspense; following a mple 1, 2, 3, formula. But there’s certainly an interesting debacle onscreen. Englund has become best known as a cinematic child murderer, but in this instance, Englund, playing the role of Jackson Roth, actually opposes the child murderer. It’s a fun twist, although Robert isn’t given much substance to work with, which lies on the shoulders of scribe Dee Snider.

http://youtu.be/dwMXQ-04g9g 2001 Maniacs: This flick is outlandish, hilarious, uber-campy, and well, just plain fun! Englund rocks a lovely eye patch which adds to his awkward menace, but the danger stirs far beyond what lies behind that patriotic facial accessory. This is an oft overlooked ghost story with carnage, laughs and a few high quality jolts. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

Dance of the Dead: This Masters of Horror installment is just plain sadistic. Englund in effect plays puppeteer of the undead, and as “The M.C.”, he’s insanely foreboding. While the gist of the film is remarkably bac, there are some seriously disturbing layers to this story, and Robert Englund is the mastermind behind this irrationality. I don’t want to speak too much on the details of this short film, because believe it or not, it’s one of the finest flicks on this list. Don’t do yourself an injustice: find it, watch it, and relish the brilliance!

Hatchet: Robert has nothing more than a cameo in this flick, but that means little to me. Kane Hodder, Robert Englund and Adam Green combining forces is just plain golden. And come on, Mr. Englund is hunting gators for fucks sake! How cool is that?

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer: Behind Nightmare, this is my favorite film to feature Robert. Everything you could ask for from a horror film is here: gore, creepy creatures, big laughs, raucous action, radical hero and a bad ass finale. I’m telling you, this one is a major winner. Once again Englund takes on the role of a professor, but this time around, the professor isn’t mply going to find himself on the wrong de of danger, he actually becomes the danger, and damn is it disgusting and hilarious! (Got to love the vomit/chalkboard scene)!

Zombie Strippers!: Robert Englund as a strip club owner? Zombie strippers wreaking havoc on a slew of horny patrons? Fucking A, I’m balls in! ‘Nuff said!

Very nice! There is also little-known 1981 movie featuring Englund (I think it was one of his first roles) called Galaxy of Terror. And it's awesome.

There was also the short stint of "The Freddy Show" or whatever it was called... "Dead Time Stories?" I'm too tired too look it up lol but I remember it from the 80s. It was entertaining for what it was.

I'm a huge fan of dumb 80s shows that were canceled during the first season lol.

Like "The Wizard", no one knows WTF I'm talking about when I try to talk about it.

A genius midget (David Rappaport) who builds devices for handi-capped people, fights crime and helps the less fortunate. How nerdy-80s-gimmicky-wonderful is that? There's a few episodes on You Tube, but I've spent years trying to find a collection.
