Abbott & Costello Meet...

Here's a question for my fellow clasc junkies...

Do you think the Abbott & Costello movies involving the Universal monsters contributes to or takes away from the monsters' impact?

Personally I loved these movies and didn't see them as taking anything away from the monsters. By the time of the first A&C Meet movie in 1948, I think the monsters had worn out their shock value through numerous sequels. By the time the monster-fest House of Dracula came out in 1945, the monsters had already began to fall into the realm of self-parody. The monsters' ability to shock and scare had diminished over the years. My own thought is A&C's increang popularity was a boost to Universal monsters which were beginning to decline. Instead of resetablishing them as icons of terror, however, they made the monsters the fun characters we see them as today.Just a thought...would love to hear what some of you think...

Just for fun, here are two of my favourite A&C sketches:

On man, "WHO'S ON FIRST BASE" HAHAHHAHA, I've not seen that in how long?

Thank you youtube and thanks for posting that up Lee, great laughs right there.

I personally don't think they took away from the clascs at all, as you said . . . they had run their coarse.

I don't think it hurt the monsters at all. However, I don't think the film is as recognized as it should be! Some horror fans see the names Abbott and Costello and they won't even look twice at it! I love this movie so much! It's funny and creepy! There was a great dvd veron of this that came out in 2000. Its also available as part of an Abbott and Costello set, but this veron doesn't include all the special features that the 2000 disc has! I'm very jealous of those Autographs! lol.Stv
