'Prometheus' Stars Theron & Fassbender Hint That The Film May Tie Into 'Alien'

With all the speculation still surrounding Ridley Scott's Prometheus one can only guess at this point what exacty we're in store for once the sci-fi flick hits theaters in the summer of 2012.

The director has made it known that the concluon of his new film directly sets the stage for the events of the original Alien film from 1979, but other than that, mums been pretty much the word.

The futuristic tale known as Prometheus is said to involve a pack of scientists who end up becoming trapped on a distant planet. The crew must "fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race" upon discovering the truth behind humankind's origins.

In addition to being the name of the explorers' ship, Prometheus is also meant to emphaze the symbolic connection between Scott's top-secret project and the Greek Titan who became famous for stealing fire (re: technology) from the gods and giving it to humanity – only to be cruelly punished and doomed to suffer for all eternity, because of his actions.

Among the individuals who find themselves stranded on the planet are: Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), another human member of the crew; human scientist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and an android known as David (Michael Fassbender). All three are pictured below in order as they appeared in the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Among the new images which the magazine revealed yesterday, a few pieces of info were also revealed by two of the actors in the film. Charlize Theron (who will play corporate executive Meredith Vickers) suggested that people "should really let go of the idea that

an 'Alien' film," which can only mean that the film isn't a direct prequel to the film but it will have some connection to it.

Fassbender also added that the film will contain certain extraterrestrial creatures "that you'll recognize." Whether that means we'll be seeing the Alien Xenomorph or the Space Jockey (or perhaps both) remains undetermined thus far.

Hopefully in the next few days more pieces will be able to be assembled to this mystery puzzle known as Prometheus.

I really hope no new information surfaces. I kind of want it to be a surprise.
