The Evil Dead Remake Has Another Actor Lined Up To Join Its Cast

The cast of Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead remake is slowly starting to grow. According to Variety, Carriers star Lou Taylor Pucci is in talks to join the young ensemble from FilmDistrict and Mandate Pictures.

Pucci will play Eric, an intense academic whose intellectual curioty gets him and his friends into trouble.

He would join recently added cast members Jane Levy ("Suburgatory") and Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood) in the project, which is a reinvention of Sam Raimi's 1981 cult clasc about a group of teens at a remote cabin who discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demons they can't control. While the new plot is milar to the original, it is a new take that doesn't include the Ash character played by Bruce Campbell.

Fede Alvarez is directing from a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues with revions by Diablo Cody. Raimi, Campbell, and Rob Tapert are producing for Ghost House Pictures, and Sony Pictures will distribute the film.

Pucci first got Hollywood's attention when he toplined Mike Mills' directorial debut Thumbsucker, after which he co-starred in Richard Kelly's sophomore feature Southland Tales. Most recently he appeared with Chris Pine and Piper Perabo in the previously mentioned Carriers.

Filming kicks off next month in New Zealand, with "The Evil Dead" arriving on April 12, 2013.
