SAW Series sets a record for domestic Horror Release!!!
Well, like "SAW" or hate it . . . it just made a HUGE leap in the Horror genre . . .
It looks like the Saw series continues to chip away gold from the movie going public, earning itself the distinction of highest grosng franchise in horror history. We get the following announcement thanks to our friends at cinematical:When you shelled out nine bucks this weekend to see if Jigsaw would do anything new in Saw V (answer: nope), you were also contributing to a milestone. With the Friday-Sunday $30 million haul, the Saw series is now the highest grosng horror franchise in history, with a cumulative domestic gross of $316 million.
Constent numbers thanks to a following of faithful fans has made the SAW franchise a very profitable endeavor. I remember the initial internet teasers that were released for the first film. I certainly didn’t expect SAW to become a franchise (much less a successful one pulling down constent money with quality returns).
SAW will never be a blockbuster, but what it has done and will continue to do is offer a product for a niche market of devoted gore hounds.
