Ghostbusters 3 Plot Revealed!

While fans wait for the long-gestating and frequently hyped Ghostbusters 3, a sequel that we're not necessarily excited about anymore, some vague story details have now surfaced from Dan Aykroyd himself. The co-writer and star of the film has been one of the few constent parts of the hype machine for this developing sequel, and he recently appeared on "Larry King Now" (the TV personality has appeared in the franchise as himself) with some vague plot details that sounds relatively interesting. Ade from again confirming a new, young Ghostbusters, Aykroyd reveals info about the supernatural force they'll deal with.

When asked about the plot, Aykroyd said (via ComingSoon):

"It's based on new research that's being done in particle phycs by the young men and women at Columbia Univerty. Bacally, there's research being done that I can say that the world or the dimenon that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width and time, become threatened by some of the research that's being done. Ghostbusters -- new Ghostbusters -- have to come and solve the problem."

These new Ghostbusters will actually be students from Columbia Univerty, so they will definitely be young, maybe even younger than the original crew from the original 1984 film. As for the returning cast, the old Ghostbusters will pass the torch, as we've heard over and over again. Of course, Bill Murray is still the holdout, but Aykroyd says, "There will be a hole for him. If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place." So it sounds like if Murray decides to show up for a cameo, they'll fit him in at the last minute. However, there's still no set release date or project production start, so we really don't know when this project will get off the ground. Again, we're not going to hold out breath.

New Ghostbusters...It could be a fun movie, if the humour is right. How long are they talking about this 3rd movie..seems like a neverending negotiation.

Speaking of negotiating..does anyone have any news about the new Poltergeist movie?
