The great Myers house debate!

We all know the opening scene of HalloweeN and the long iconic continuous shot. When they pan in on the house from the front like in the pic below, is there a shadow of a palm tree on the house?

Are you referring to the shadows of the support beams?

Right Sam which is perfect for sunny California but should a palm tree be on the streets of Haddonfield, IL?

Here is the pic, I tried to green the shadow area I am talking about....

Well the top part of that might very well be a tree (whether or not it's of the palm variety... I can't really say

), but I believe the bottom is the shadow of one of the colomns supporting the overhang. At least that's what it looks like to me.

you may very well be right. It may be a trick of shadows but I have always got the palm tree vibe when I watched that scene....

I dont believe its the shadow of a palm tree.

It makes it look like that because of the shadow of the pillar/support beam and then the actual tree shadow kind of blend together.

Here is a slightly larger image of the house. Now to me it seems like the "tree trunk" belongs to a series of other "tree trunks" that happen to line up perfectly with, and be the same shape as the support beams. That's how I see it anyway...

Patrick is right....that's just a shadow of one of the columns....I think the rest is just a shadow of the tree on the right.....the lighting is obviously on a boom. I don't think Carpenter would be that careless to show a palm when he went to a lot of trouble to NOT show them.

Oh yea its a palm tree, you can also see palm trees in the background when tommy and laurie are going to school. Also, and though this movie takes place in Illinois all the cars have california plates.

Oh and just to clear things up a little bit....

I was recently in South Pasadena and there are NO Palm trees for miles in that area.

The whole neighborhood does not look like it belongs there.
