Last week we brought you the news of Universal and Imagine Entertainment having scored the rights to Anne Rice's popular book series. A deal which will allow them access to every entry in The Vampire Chronicles including future releases as well as the adapted screenplay of TALE OF THE BODY THIEF which was penned by Christopher Rice, Anne's son. Currently there are 13 books within the series, with "Prince Lestat" coming to shelves in October.
We have learned that Josh Boone, who is lined up to direct Warner Bros. THE STAND is in talks to take on the directing duties for the new vampire project. The film, which is currently being referred to as LESTAT will not be an adaptation of INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, but will instead pull inspiration from the second and third books in the Vampire Chronicles series - "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned."
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be producing the films, with Bobby Cohen executive producing. Overseeing for Imagine Entertainment will be Erica Huggins.
