The next installment into the AMITYVILLE film series has been in the works for a long while now. Under the title AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, and with director Frankc Khalfoun steering the wheel, things were moving along nicely. A very promising official trailer hit the scene and a release date was made. Then just a couple of weeks ago came the news that the film was delayed, leaving an uncertain future.
We have now learned the reason behind the delay. The studio held two separate screenings for AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, and the end result was positive feedback. The biggest issue that audiences had with the film was it's ending. As a result, the Weinsteins have ordered re-shoots. Another issue that has been adding pressure is the fact that there is still a lot of effects work to be done.
Re-shoots are on the agenda but the production will have to wait for Cameron Monaghan to become available who is now shooting the new season of SHAMELESS.
AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann and Jennifer Morrison.
“Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house
with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare
. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.”
At this point the goal is to finish everything before the end of the year and the film is aiming for a release sometime around Summer of 2015.
