Back in November we learned that Twentieth Century Fox officially green lit the long awaited INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, putting the film on track a 2016 Summer release. That means that the alien invasion sequel will hit the big screen almost exactly 20 years after the original.
It is no secret that Will Smith will not be returning to star in the sequel but that isn't stopping this machine. When producer Dean Devlin and director Roland Emmerich first began the serious talks of doing a sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY, the plan was to make two sequels which would shoot simultaneously. The approval from Fox is currently for only one film.
Emmerich revealed the newest additions to the cast via Twitter:
Bill Pullman will return to reprise his role as the President, which will be ex by now and Judd Hirsch returns as the father of Jeff Goldblum's character David.
The rest of the cast includes Goldblum, Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King, Travis Tope and Jessie Usher.
INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 will be in theaters June 24, 2016.
