DEATH NOTE is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The story follows Light Yagami, a high school student that comes across a mysterious notebook that grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know. The popular series was previously adapted into a film in it's home country of Japan, and it even gave birth to a sequel. Now it looks as if a new movie adaptation of DEATH NOTE is coming.
Warner Bros. currently has development plans for a fresh take on DEATH NOTE. We have now learned that Adam Wingard (YOU'RE NEXT) will indeed be directing the feature length film. Producing the project will be Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka. Jeremy Slater has written a draft script which Wingard will be using.
"A student discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name, who then decides to cleanse the world of whom he deems evil. As the student is tracked by a reclusive police officer, a cat-and-mouse game ensues."
Take note that before Wingard can fully put his focus on this job, he will be working on THE WOODS this summer for Lionsgate.
We will continue to bring you more on DEATH NOTE as it unfolds.
