Back in November we learned that Twentieth Century Fox officially green lit the long awaited INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, putting the film on track a 2016 Summer release. That means that the alien invasion sequel will hit the big screen almost exactly 20 years after the original.
It is no secret that Will Smith will not be returning to star in the sequel but that isn't stopping this machine. When producer Dean Devlin and director Roland Emmerich first began the serious talks of doing a sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY, the plan was to make two sequels which would shoot simultaneously. The approval from Fox is currently for only one film.
As time goes on, more names are added to the cast and today is no different as we have learned that actor DeObia Oparei has officially joined the cast.
Oparei will play the role of Dikembe, the Oxford educated son of an African warlord. He currently stars on GAME OF THRONES as King Doran's captain of the guard Areo Hotah.
Oparei joins the cast which already includes Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Sela Ward, Brent Spiner, Vivica Fox, Judd Hirsch, Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King and Maika Monroe.
INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 will be in theaters June 24, 2016.
