The Paul Feig directed GHOSTBUSTERS film has been in the works for quite a while and shooting is now officially underway. The project has been loaded down with rumors and what if's for a very long time, from the Sony email hack suggesting many stars which were interested in taking part to Dan Aykroyd still claiming that one day we will get an original sequel.
We know that this new tale will see four females handling the Ghostbusting this go around. Feig shared images on Twitter showing what the brand new uniforms as well as the new proton pack looks like.
GHOSTBUSTERS will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. Feig directs from a screenplay which he co-wrote with Katie Dippold.
The Boston Herald previously offered the first plot details for the new GHOSTBUSTERS film saying:
"Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world."
The site went on to report that we can expect one familiar face in the form of the Slimer ghost character. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. Cameo appearances from Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray are still up in the air at this point.
The new GHOSTBUSTERS film currently has a release date of July 22, 2016.
