Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.
A few years ago it was made known that Nicolas Winding Refn was going to be directing a remake of of William Lustig's 1988 Horror flick MANIAC COP. Not long after that, the talks about the remake quickly fizzled out and it appeared that it wouldn't happen. Well today we bring you some fresh news on the subject at hand.
Refn himself announced at Fantastic Fest that he has hand picked a new director to fill that slot in John Hyams, who is known for UNIVERSAL SOLIDER: DAY OF RECKONING, and SyFy's Z NATION.
Excited about bringing the manic cop Matt Cordell back to screen, Hyams posted on Twitter:
“Yes, it’s true. A rare and incredible opportunity to work with one of my favorite filmmakers. Beyond excited.”
Here is the original synopsis:
"Innocent people are brutally killed on the streets of New York by a uniformed police officer. A young cop, Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) finds himself marked as the chief suspect after his wife is murdered. As Lieutenant Frank McCrae (Tom Atkins) investigates, the death toll rises and he suspects a mysterious police cover-up. This “maniac” cop must be stopped, but it might not be so easy. He seems inhuman, and ready to take on the entire police force, hell-bent on revenge!"
The script for the MANIAC COP remake was written by Ed Brubaker. Nicolas Winding Refn will be producing.
We will continue to bring you more on this story as it unfolds.
