2008's Cannes Film Festival surprise hit MARTYRS really caught people off guard as it illustrated just what the New French Extremity movement was all about. Director Pascal Laugier brought this twisted vision to life making it difficult to watch at times due to the disturbing violence that takes place.
We have known that a MARTYRS remake has been in the works for a while now. Back in July the film was picked up by Anchor Bay for distribution and today we have learned the official release date is now January 22, 2016.
This film comes to us courtesy of directors the Goetz Brothers and is produced by Blumhouse as well as The Safran Company.
The film stars Bailey Noble, Troian Bellisario, Kate Burton and Blake Robbins.
"Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them..."
Remember that the MARTYRS remake will be coming to theaters on January 22, 2016.
