2012 saw the release of PROMETHEUS which became a huge hit at the box office and of course it makes perfect sense to have a sequel. Director Ridley Scott has been working on the upcoming ALIEN: COVENANT which will be the PROMETHEUS sequel and serve as a prequel to the ALIEN films.
While promoting the Blu-ray/DVD release of THE MARTIAN, costume designer Janty Yates spoke to Collider about ALIEN: COVENANT revealing that the film will take place "10 years in the future beyond PROMETHEUS."
The year in which PROMETHEUS took place was 2093, which is 28 years before the events of the original 1979 ALIEN film. The upcoming film will bring that number down to 18 years before.
“[It’s] not so much of a spacesuit movie. There are two different spacesuits in it. We are only carrying on one look from PROMETHEUS, which is with David."
In case you missed it here are the story details for the upcoming ALIEN: COVENANT:
"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."
ALIEN: COVENANT will star Katherine Waterston and currently has a release date of October 6, 2017.
