2012 saw the release of PROMETHEUS which became a huge hit at the box office and of course it makes perfect sense to have a sequel. Director Ridley Scott has been working on the upcoming ALIEN: COVENANT which will be the PROMETHEUS sequel and serve as a prequel to the ALIEN films.
We previously learned that the upcoming film will take place 10 years in the future beyond PROMETHEUS, and will not be so much of a spacesuit movie.
As far as details go, things have been locked up very tightly when it comes ALIEN: COVENANT. However, the website AvP Galaxy has shared some first look set photos taken in New Zealand from the upcoming film. The pictures were taken in front of Mitre Peak, an iconic mountain in the South of New Zealand. They are constructing what would appear to be a spaceship.
ALIEN: COVENANT will star Michael Fassbender, Demián Bichir, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollet, Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez, and Billy Crudup.
Fassbender will be reprising his role as David from PROMETHEUS.
"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition."
ALIEN: COVENANT has a release date of August 4th, 2017.
