1987 was the year that the iconic classic film PREDATOR was released onto the world. A very original and clever setting came along with it as a group of military soldiers found themselves deep within the jungle being hunted down one by one by a mysterious transparent killer alien. We learned quite some time ago that PREDATOR would be heading to the modern era courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox.
Back in 2014, Shane Black was picked to direct and also co-write the script for the new film along with Fred Dekker which will be titled THE PREDATOR. Black previously stated that his take was less of a reboot and more of an "inventive sequel," expanding the existing PREDATOR universe instead of retelling the original.
Black recently spoke to Collider revealing that:
"This one will be set in present day."
Also confirmed is the talk of bringing Arnold Schwarzenegger back into the fold as Black says:
"I think it’s something we’re looking into, and as this thing evolves and takes on more of a shape, we’ll figure out how best to honor the tradition of what is really a remarkable first movie and even parts of the rest of them as well."
Black went on to say that he expects THE PREDATOR to be his next film. He has previously stated that he wants this to be an event movie, with as much money as it takes backing it. Black says to the doubters:
"I mean, there’s great Predator movies, but to actually play with the idea of making it an event, not necessarily in scale — it doesn’t have to be huge — but it just has to feel like a Predator movie you want to see in the summer and line up for it. And that’s what we’re going for. Let’s get back to the excitement and innovation of that original movie where it felt fresh."
THE PREDATOR currently has a release date set for March 2, 2018.
