Last summer Director Colin Trevorrow's long awaited JURASSIC WORLD hit theaters to an amazing response. It quickly become the third highest grossing film in history. The fact that the resurrected franchise performed so well meant only one thing, that we will once again be seeing the Dinosaurs return to the big screen.
Earlier on this year there were rumors going around that Juan Antonio Bayona was in talks to be the director of JURASSIC WORLD 2. It has now been confirmed that Bayona will in fact be the director of the upcoming film.
The news was confirmed by Trevorrow, who welcomingly passes the Dino torch so to speak.
This all works out perfectly for J.A. Bayona, who not long ago dropped out of the WORLD WAR Z sequel so that he could complete his project A MONSTER CALLS. Once Bayona finishes up there he can then begin work on JURASSIC WORLD 2.
JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow, who is penning the script for the sequel says:
"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island...That’ll get old real fast.
I feel like the idea that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy.
And this isn’t something necessarily that was in the book but is a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, is that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?"
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are set to return for JURASSIC WORLD 2 which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 22, 2017.
