Big News For ZOMBIELAND 2!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

The undead action comedy ZOMBIELAND was released back in 2009, the unlikely Woody Harrelson/Jesse Eisenberg film eventually earned $102 million at the box office, which in turn sparked plenty of talk about bringing Harrelson, Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin back for a sequel. However by 2011, Eisenberg sounded hesitant about his involvement, questioning the sequel’s relevance while Harrelson made it known that he didn’t “feel like a sequels guy.” 2013 saw the attempt at ZOMBIELAND: The TV Series which was expected to happen through Amazon Instant Video but the company passed on the pilot.

The sequel idea appears to be getting some light shed onto it this time around as various casting websites are now claiming that production on the film could be beginning this August in Atlanta. This is by far no means official but considering the fact that Sony revealed the logo for ZOMBIELAND 2 earlier this month, there may just be some truth to all of the reports.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the first ZOMBIELAND and also worked on the DEADPOOL screenplay, are said to be on board for the sequel. Callaham, who wrote GODZILLA, is also said to be joining the writing team.

Ruben Fleischer, who also directed Jesse Eisenberg in 30 MINUTES OR LESS, is expected to return to direct the sequel.

At this time there is no casting news, nor has there been a release date set.

Eisenberg said back in February that a sequel “would be wonderful to do.” “It takes place in this odd, created world and features an ensemble of interesting characters that it’d be curious to see more of,” he said. “I would hope that it happens, and I’m sure everybody would be happy to do it if it happens and it’s good. It’s also a strangely beloved movie, so it’s a thing you have to get right.”

We will continue to bring you more on ZOMBIELAND 2 as it unfolds.
