Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.
As you may know, Dimension tried for a very long time to create a new HALLOWEEN film but then just months ago, lost the rights to the franchise. Things did not look good for Michael Myers but apparently everything happens for a reason.
We have learned the big news that Blumhouse, Miramax, and Trancas International Films are teaming together to bring us the next HALLOWEEN film. An even bigger surprise is that John Carpenter himself will be executive producing the project, and might possibly score it as well. Malek Akkad will be producing.
It turns out that Jason Blum and company have been planning this project for close to a year. Carpenter's involvement came about just two weeks ago. Blum has made it very clear that this new movie will not work without Carpenter on board, who will "godfather" the new film being involved creatively. At this point there has been no director chosen but Blumhouse has been having meetings with potential choices.
Carpenter is in talks to score the new HALLOWEEN film but he doing so is not official as of yet. He is said to be open to the idea though.
Carpenter said on the new HALLOWEEN:
"We're going to go back to the earlier traditions that we started with. It's kind of gone astray a little bit. I thought that maybe the remake went off somewhere that I didn't want it to go. Michael Myers is not a character, he's a force of nature. He is not a person; he is part supernatural, part human. When you start straying away from that and start explaining, you're lost. So hopefully we can guide it back in that direction."
"38 years after the original Halloween I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all.”
Carpenter went on to say that the decision was not a difficult one when it came to him being asked to be a part of this new project.
Blum also said that they do not want to make this new movie too "meta" by over doing it. They are looking to bring things back to basics.
At this point there is no timetable laid out for a release but the producer did say that the goal is to have the new HALLOWEEN movie ready by Halloween 2017.
There is no indication as to what kind of movie this will be, nor are there any story details to share at this time. But we can take a deep breathe knowing that John Carpenter is now involved with the new HALLOWEEN movie.
We will continue to follow this story as it unfolds.
