The Very Latest On The New FRIDAY THE 13TH Movie Project!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

There have been plans to create another installment for the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise ever since the release of the 2009 reboot. Bringing Jason Voorhees back to the big screen is not an easy task. Some fans have grown tired of hearing about a new FRIDAY THE 13TH film as previous attempts have all fallen apart and amounted to nothing.

Platinum Dunes has been developing the new FRIDAY THE 13TH film at Paramount for almost three years now. Near the end of last year it was announced that director David Bruckner was no longer attached to the project and that Paramount had decided to go in a fresh direction, with a new writer in Aaron Guzikowski coming on board to get things re-going.

With rumors and speculation of a possible appearance from Jason's father Elias bombarding the Horror news world we can now report that this does in fact appear to be the case as the producers of the new FRIDAY THE 13TH project have confirmed that we will be meeting the family.

“We’re going to go back,” producer Brad Fuller tells Yahoo Movies, “and we’re going to meet that family.”

Co-producer Andrew Form agrees:

“We’re going to meet the family. You’re gonna meet Pamela, Elias, and Jason. And you’re gonna see how it all happened.”

There you have it, confirmation from the producers themselves. We did not report the possibility of Jason's father being in the picture at first because at the time it was only rumors but now it looks as if we might really be meeting the family, provided that the movie actually makes it to the finish line this time.

Jason Voorhees' father Elias has never appeared on screen. The character did show up in a spin-off comic titled "Friday the 13th: Pamela’s Tale" where it was revealed that Pamela Voorhees murdered Elias after taking many years of abuse. It is not known if this will be the direction that the new film will be taking.

Fuller recently reminded fans that a found footage FRIDAY THE 13TH will not be happening saying:

"There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world."

As of now there is still no director attached to the new FRIDAY THE 13TH film. Whether or not things move along quickly enough to make the January 13, 2017 release date that is currently set by Paramount is unknown, but it is very unlikely. Expect a 2017 release though as Paramount has only obtained the rights from Warner Bros. for five years which will be ending in 2018.

We will continue to keep you updated on all things FRIDAY THE 13TH.
