A sequel to the Ridley Scott classic BLADE RUNNER has been being talked about for a while now. The 1982 Harrison Ford starring film took place in a dystopian Los Angeles in the year 2019.
Dennis Villeneuve has been directing this new BLADE RUNNER film which began last month for Alcon Entertainment.
The new film has really been going all out, recreating the very detailed sets using that same aesthetic from the original.
We have learned that tragedy has struck in Hungary as one of the BLADE RUNNER 2 sets was being dismantled. A part of an overhead construction platform caved in on top of a construction worker. The local studio in Budapest where it happened, Origo Studios, has released this statement:
“The worker was underneath a platform, upon which the set was constructed, when it suddenly collapsed. The cause of the accident is not yet known.”
Production at this particular studio had already wrapped during the time of the accident, with filming for BLADE RUNNER 2 going taking place in the village of Etyek in Hungary at Korda Studios.
Our condolences go out to this unknown construction worker's family. It is important for us as fans to remember all of the hard and dangerous work that goes into making these pieces of entertainment that we get to comfortably enjoy.
BLADE RUNNER 2 is set to be released on October 6, 2017.
