Big News For The SUSPIRIA Remake Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Dario Argento's 1977 classic Horror film SUSPIRIA is considered by many fans to be one of the very best movies ever made. Plans to create a remake were talked about for a while but never amounted to anything. There were even ideas for the film to take the possible television series route.

Then last year we learned that Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino had been selected to replace David Gordon Green as director for the SUSPIRIA remake.

With shooting on the SUSPIRIA remake having just began in Italy this week, we have just learned the big news that Jessica Harper, who starred in the original as wide-eyed ballerina Suzy Bannion, will be joining the cast.

Amazon Studios confirmed that Harper will be joining the cast of Luca Guadagnino's remake. IMDb states that her character is named Anke, which is a new character that did not appear on the original.

Not long ago Dakota Johnson joined the cast, and will be taking on the heroine role which Jessica Harper portrayed in the original film. Tilda Swinton also has signed on, and is expected to play one of the witches that run the dance academy.

Chloƫ Grace Moretz also recently joined in on the fun as well and will likely be playing one of the students at the dance academy. In addition, Mia Goth joins the rest of the ladies in the cast as she too is expected to portray one of the students at the academy.

Director Luca Guadagnino's career has mostly been made up of shorts and documentaries. He has a few feature dramas to his credit including the thriller A BIGGER SPLASH, which is a remake of 1969's LA PISCINE.

Guadagnino previously stated about his SUSPIRIA project that he has high hopes of getting composer John Adams on board, and that he is taking a Fassbinderian approach to the remake.

He went on to add that:

"[It will be] very different. The movie by Dario Argento was maybe a child of its own times. It's very delicate; almost childish. I have a very strong interest in German literature and film, so I think [my] Suspiria will have to focus very strongly on that moment in history, in 1977, when Germany was divided and a new generation was claiming and asking to recognize the debt of guilt that forged the new Germany after the war against the fathers who wanted to deny the responsibility."

Synopsis:

"Based on the 1977 film from Italian horror master Dario Argento, SUSPIRIA follows a young ballet dancer who travels to a prestigious dance academy in Europe, only to discover it is a front for something far more sinister and supernatural amidst a series of increasingly grisly murders."

The script writing duties go to David Kajganich which is based on Dario Argento's classic film.

We will continue to bring you more on the SUSPIRIA remake as it unfolds.
