It was made known quite some time ago that Universal had decided to take it's Classic monsters and give them reboots. The studio is still in the process of bringing them back to life on screen, with the idea of creating it's own universe to where characters can cross over from different films.
With THE MUMMY just recently having it's official trailer released onto the world, the hype is growing over this new Universal Monster universe with unlimited possibilities.
One question that fans have been curious about is will DRACULA UNTOLD be a part of this new universe? Screen Rant recently spoke with the man who is overseeing the entire project, Alex Kurtzman, and when asked if DRACULA UNTOLD will still be part of this new Monster universe he simply replied, "No".
So it looks as though Universal would like us all to forget about DRACULA UNTOLD as THE MUMMY will be the first official entry into the new Monster universe.
Earlier in the year there were plans for another VAN HELSING to be made after we see yet another FRANKENSTEIN flick, as well as a movie for his BRIDE, THE WOLF MAN, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON and THE INVISIBLE MAN.
There have been rumors that Scarlett Johansson is interested in THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON reboot. It has also been previously reported that Universal is seeking Angelina Jolie Pitt to take on the lead role in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.
With the goal being to release a new Monster film into theaters each year, Universal has the current release date for THE MUMMY set for June 9, 2017.
